Windows 7 End-of-Life Approaching. Top 5 Reasons to Move Now
Windows 7 is approaching end-of-life.
Microsoft announced that as of January 14, 2020, they will no longer be supporting Windows 7.
We highly recommend that all businesses allocate time to upgrade before this date.
Released in 2009, Microsoft generally commits to a product/service for approximately 10 years. The reason is simply due to advancements in technology ensuring and that they can begin allocating resources to developing the next generation of technology.
As this decade of development and support is rapidly approaching, Microsoft and Netway Networks are encouraging all businesses to upgrade to Windows 10 as soon as possible to avoid any unnecessary technical issues if migrating at a later time.
There are more than just security and support incentives to upgrade to Windows 10.
Here are our top 5 reasons why Windows 10 will help your business.
Here are our 5 main reasons why your business should move now
1 – End of support
First of all, it’s important to note that when a product comes to ‘End-of-Life’ it doesn’t mean that all services will be shut down and you won’t have access to your operating system. It actually means that the system will no longer be developed and supported.
You can still utilise the operating system, but Microsoft is no longer going to be supporting and developing the service.
Therefore, any existing backdoors, security issues, or general areas that can be exploited will not be patched.
If your business operates on Windows 7 and a new virus or malware is circulated (like WannaCry), there is no one available to patch the exploitations and it’s highly likely that it will circulate globally. Who do you think it will spread to first? Windows 10 (where it can be patched or Windows 7 (where there is no support)?
2 – Speed
Although it is a given, speed in every sense of the word has been thoroughly enhanced in Windows 10.
The operating system is faster to navigate and has enhanced performance and speed allowing you to get more from your PC!
3 – Collaboration
With a faster operating system, fewer bugs and more universal applications available form the app store, you can enhance your business collaboration more than ever!
Applications that are available in all versions of windows and significantly faster and easier to use. However, there are also a number of new applications that are only available on Windows 10.
4 – Usability
It might take a bit of getting used to, but once you make the change it will be impossible to go back. Windows 10 has a completely different look and feel from your other Windows operating systems and as the speed has increased, the new and available re-vamped applications are easier to use and navigate.
5 – Security
According to cybersecurity and threat intelligence provider Webroot, they reviewed malware infections on Windows 10 and Windows 7 machines running its antivirus last year and found Windows 10 was "twice as secure" as Windows 7.
We’re not saying that you don’t need any monitoring and anti-virus solutions, however, out of the box, Windows 10’s security features are already amazing and do a great job when used in collaboration with tools like Webroot.
We understand that you might not be aware of the benefits of Windows 10 or security issues of not migrating. Netway Networks are offering a free no-obligation discussion to all businesses where we can provide you with personalised recommendations about how to transition.
